House Calls in San Francisco & Walnut Creek

I remember this French movie I saw one time, where it depicted a doctor making a house call.  As an American, seeing a doctor making house calls seems strange… It’s not that it doesn’t make sense.  It makes a lot of sense, it just seems a little far out for modern Americans.

Until I suffered a debilitating right glute pain last December.  It was so painful and debilitating, it was nearly impossible for me to perform the most basic daily routines like rolling off the bed, or going to the restroom, or even just sleeping comfortably.  Forget about the mundane task of taking the garbage from the kitchen to the dumpster in the garage. That took me 30 minutes. The slightest provocation dropped me down to my knees.  Fortunately, I knew how to fix it. Yes, I needled myself.  It’s kind of tricky to needle my own buttock, but I managed and I got better right away.

But how about people who couldn’t fix themselves, or people who have a worse condition than I did?  A condition that is so bad, they can’t even get in the car to go to a clinic. Forget about public transportation.  Sure, car sharing services like Uber/Lyft make it easier, but you still have to walk.  Did I mention that it took me 30 minutes to go from kitchen to garage?

Or someone who is simply too busy to even find time to get treated?  What if you work for a tech company and you are racing against a deadline, or a lawyer having to get ready for a big case.  Going anywhere in the city takes at least an hour round trip, and you simply can’t spare that extra one hour.

So at the urge of a close MD friend, I am testing out the idea of making house calls in San Francisco and Walnut Creek area starting April, 2019.
